Washington high school lacrosse scores for Friday, May 7

Boys Division I

Seattle Prep drops Vashon in boys lacrosse

SEATTLE – Ryen Bartlett scored 4 goals and an assist and Alex Vincent netted 3 to lift Seattle Prep to an 11 – 7 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Vashon, Friday at Seattle’s Georgetown Fields. The win elevated Prep to a 6th place tie with Stadium in the Southwest Conference. Gregor Davidheiser and Duncan Ende both scored 2 for Vashon in the loss. The Pirates dropped to 1-11-0 for 9th in the Southwest Conference.

Lakeside defeats Northshore in boys lacrosse

SEATTLE – Sten Jernudd scored 6 goals and 2 assists and grabbed 11 ground balls to lead Lakeside to its 7th win of the season with a 16 – 12 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Northshore, Friday at the Lakeside School in north Seattle. Nick Canino had 9 saves in goal as the Lions advanced to 7-5-0 locked in a 6th place tie with Northshore in the Northeast Conference. Taylor Wisman had 4 goals, an assist and 10 ground balls for Northshore, which slipped to 9-5-0.

Menella’s OT goal lifts 1st place Bellevue over Issaquah

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Brett Menella scored with 2:27 remaining in overtime to lift Bellevue to a 9 – 8 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Issaquah, Friday at Bellevue High School. Menella beat Issaquah’s O’Neil Hughes for the winner and the second of his 2 goals on the night after being hit with a Cole Nordstrom pass at the midway point of the overtime period. With 1:56 remaining in regulation, Nordstrom hit the equalizer sending the game into the extra stanza. The tieing goal was Nordstrom’s second of the night. With the win, 16 – 2 (12 – 0 in Conference play), Bellevue remains tied with Mercer Island for the Northeast Conference lead. Even Greenhall had 3 goals for Issaquah. With the loss, the Eagles slipped to 14 – 4 overall (10-2 in Conference play) for second overall.

Bainbridge downs Curtis for 4th straight boys lax win

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Jordan Wagner scored 5 goals and 5 assists to lift Bainbridge Island to its 4th straight Boys Division I high school lacrosse win, Friday at Curtis High School in University Place. Alex Crane contributed 4 goals and Jullian Skotheim had 13 saves in the win, which elevated the second-place Eagles to 10 – 8 (10 – 3 in Conference play) overall. Quinn Moody had 4 goals as Curtis evened its record at 7 – 7 overall. With the loss, Curtis rests in fourth-place in the Southwest Conference.

King’s Way hands Eastside Catholic 14 – 3 boys lacrosse loss

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Jordan Goodspeed scored 4 goals and an assist to lift King’s Way to a 14 – 3 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Eastside Catholic, Friday at Charlie Acosta Field on the Campus of the Eastside Catholic School. The win lifted King’s Way to 10 – 2 overall (9 – 2 in Conference Play) for first place in the Southwest Conference. Mike Crewwell, Peter Kimble and Kyle Decker all scored for Eastside Catholic as the Crusaders slipped to 3 – 12 overall (2 -10 in Conference play).

MI extends to 17-0 with lacrosse win over Eastlake

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Claes Johnson scored 3 goals and Hap Giraud had 4 saves as first-place Mercer Island extended its unbeaten record to 17 – 0 with a 6 – 3 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Eastlake, Friday at Islander Stadium. Matt Uhlar, Riley Hill and Cooper Rosenthal each scored for Eastlake. With the loss, Eastlake slipped to 5-8-0 overall, 9th in the Northeast Conference.

Boys Division II

First place Snohomish drops Silver Lake for 12th lax win

SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Nick Hund scored 4 goals and 2 assists to lift first-place Snohomish to its 12th win of the season with an 18 – 1 win over Silver Lake in Boys Division II high school lacrosse action, Friday on the Snohomish High School Freshman Campus. With the loss, first-year Silver Lake is winless in its 12 starts this season.

13 – 1 Wenatchee drops Three Rivers lacrosse in Richland

RICHLAND, Wash. – Scott Hershey scored 3 goals and an assist as Eastern Conference leader Wenatchee extended its overall record to 13 -1 with a 12 – 5 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Three Rivers, Friday at Badger Mountain Park in Richland. Wenatchee’s only loss came in a season-opening non-league defeat by Coeur d’Alene. Drew Wade and Trent Wellner had 2 goals each while Danny Hart and Kyle Cardinal combined for 16 saves as second-place Three Rivers dropped its 6th game of the season.

Gig Harbor rolls past Liberty in boys lacrosse

GIG HARBOR, Wash. – Ricky Chenoweth and Cody Olson each scored 3 goals to lift Gig Harbor to a 7 – 2 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Liberty, Friday at Gig Harbor High School. The win evened Gig Harbor’s overall record to 8-8-0 for third place in the Olympic Conference. Fourth-place Liberty slipped to 2-12 overall. In the loss, Casey Smith had 2 goals and Deex Roland had 4 saves for Liberty.

Roosevelt drops Highline to inch closer to Metro lax lead

SEATTLE – Eli Harmon scored 5 goals as Roosevelt moved to within a game of Metro Conference leader Blanchet with a 12 – 6 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Highline, Friday at Seattle’s Lower Woodland Park. The win advanced the Roughriders to 10 – 5 overall (10 – 3 in conference play). Isaac Simpson had 2 goals and tanner Seramur made 11 saves is fifth-place Highline slipped to 2-5-0.

Providence downs Woodinville for 4th straight lax win

LYNNWOOD, Wash. – Caleb Moisant scored 2 goals to lead Providence Classical Christian School to its fourth straight Boys Division II high school lacrosse win with a 4 – 2 defeat of Woodinville, Friday at Lynnwood High School. The win elevated Providence to third place in the Cascade Conference. Keaton House and Tyler Paris each scored for Woodinville, which dropped to 5 – 10 overall for fourth place in the Cascade Conference.

Seattle Prep drops Forest Ridge in girls lacrosse

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Mary Sessler scored 4 goals and 2 assists to lead Seattle Prep to its 7th win of the season with a 12 – 6 Girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Forest Ridge, Friday at Robinswood Park in Bellevue. The win was the second in a row for the Panthers, which finish the season 7-5-1 for the sixth see entering the playoffs. Forest Ridge finished the season out of the playoff race with a 2 – 11 record.

Snohomish downs Bellevue to secure 3rd playoff seed

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Meaghan Hess scored 7 goals and 2 assists to lead Snohomish to the 3rd playoff seed in Girls Division II high school lacrosse play with an 18 – 6 defeat of Bellevue, Friday at Bellevue High School. The win was the 9th straight for Snohomish. Bellevue finished the season at 6-6-1 for the 7th seed.

Kennedy lax blanks North Kitsap, secures 2nd playoff seed

POULSBO, Wash. – Natalie Merrill scored 3 goals and 2 assists as Kennedy blanked North Kitsap 16 – 0 to secure the second seed in the Girls Division II high school lacrosse playoffs. The Lancers finished the season with a 10-1-0 record. Val Kranich and Emilie Poffenroth combined for 17 saves in goal as North Kitsap missed the playoffs with a 1-10-0 record.

Issaquah girls drop Lakeside in lacrosse to lock in first seed

ISSAQUAH, Wash. – Four Issaquah players scored 3 goals each to lead the 11-0 Eagles to the first seed in the Girls Division II high school lacrosse playoffs with an 18 – 5 win over Lakeside, Friday at Issaquah’s Eastlake Community Field. Brittany Hogan, Robin Ringman, Sphie Shiefelbein and Emily Mincin all scored hat tricks in the Eagles’ win. Eleanor Runde had 2 goals and Carter Stratton ahd 6 saves as Lakeside finished the season at 9-2-0 for the fourth seed entering the playoffs.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.

Boys Division I

Tacoma downs Stadium in South Sound lax battle

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Connor McLeod scored 5 goals and an assist to lead Tacoma to a 9 – 3 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win, Thursday at Cirque-Bridgeport Park in University Place. Connor O’Brien had 11 ground balls to help Tacoma keep Stadium at bay in the battle of South Sound rivals. Andrew Rega had 7 saves in goal as Tacoma advanced to 5-9-0. Martin Park scored 2 goals and Drew Thomas had 15 saves in goal for 3-9-0 Stadium.

LYNDEN, Wash. – Andrew Price scored 3 goals and an assist as Stanwood dropped North County 10 – 6 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse action, Thursday at Bender Fields in Lynden. The win lifted Stanwood to 9-4-0 on the season, while North County fell to 1-11-0 with their third straight loss.

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – Caleb Hiller scored 4 goals and Jason Trost added 3 as Klahowya won its 8th straight Boys Division II high school lacrosse game in a 14 – 5 defeat of Olympic Conference rival South Kitsap, Thursday at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard. The win advanced Klahowya to 11 – 2. Eric Peterson had 2 goals and Ben Landry had 19 saves as South Kitsap dipped to 3-9-0 on the season.

Kyle Scott 2OT goal gives Whatcom lax win over Skagit Valley
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Kyle Scott scored with 3:34 remaining in the second overtime to give Whatcom a 7 – 6 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Skagit Valley, Thursday at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. Scott scored the second of his two goals after taking a Jona Mannering pass to beat Skagit Valley goaltender Jordan Johnson for the win. Assisted by a Daniel Hernandez pass, Scott’s first goal came with just 2 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Hernandez scored 3 goals for 6-7-0 Whatcom. Blake Berg scored 3 goals and goaltender Jordan Johnson had 22 saves as Skagit Valley slipped to 3-10-0.

SEATTLE – Zane Zielke scored 4 goals and Connor Black added 3 as Metro Conference leader Blanchet won its 5th straight game with a 15 – 2 Boys Division II high school win over Garfield, Thursday at Seattle’s Bishop Blanchet High School. Will Massart had 11 saves for Blanchet as the Braves advanced to 11-2-0 atop the Metro Conference. Sage Vogt and Reed Kenny each scored for Garfield. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 8-5-0.

SEATTLE – Linea Whisman scored 5 goals and Maya Code-Williams netted 3 to lift Garfield to an 11 – 8 Girls Division I high school lacrosse win, Thursday at Garfield High School. The win lifted the Bulldogs to 3-0-0 on the season. Nathan Hale dropped its third straight to dip to 1-12-0.

SEATTLE – Sylvia Warren and Kyra Ray each scored 4 goals to power Lakeside to a 13-0 record with a 20 – 5 Girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Roosevelt, Thursday at Seattle’s Magnuson Park. Angie Anderson had 2 goals for Roosevelt as the Roughriders finished with a 5-7-1 record.

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Ellen Haas and Sarah Drucker each scored 3 goals as Mercer Island capped a 10-3 season with a 17-8 Girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Holy Names, Thursday at Islander Stadium. The Islanders peppered Holy Names goaltender Katie Arthofer with 41 shots in the win. Katie Lopes had 3 goals in the loss for Holy Names. The Cougars finished the season at 4-9-0.

With the win the Owls advanced to 9-2-0. Madison Goodwin scored the lone goal for Auburn Mountainview.

BURIEN, Wash. – Natalie Merrill and Melanie Hughes each scored 5 goals as Kennedy advanced to 9-1-0 with a 15 – 4 Girls Division II high school lacrosse win over Klahowya, Thursday at Kennedy High School in Burien. Sheri McCarty had 8 saves for Klahowya, which slipped to 4-7-0.

Ballard girls hand Holy Names 12 – 8 defeat
SEATTLE – Haley Jackson scored 4 goals and Maddie Soukup added 3 as Ballard cruised to their sixth win of the season with a 12 – 8 Girls Division II high school lacrosse win over Holy Names, Thursday at Magnuson Park in Seattle. Ballard advanced to 6-4-1 on the season with the win. Megan Chamberlin and Karolina Pysakiewicz each had 3 goals and Peyton Jacobsen had 10 saves in goal as Holy Names dropped to 1-10-0.

SEATTLE – Jake Dossett scored 5 goals and an assist as Northshore pounded Seattle Prep 12 – 4 in Boys Division I high school lacrosse action, Wednesday at Seattle’s Summit Fields. Charlie Peterson had 6 saves in goal for Snohomish, which is now 9-4-0. Jack Maurer had 11 saves in goal as Prep dropped to 3-10-0.

The win elevated the Panthers to 5-6-0. Dana Jensen scored 5 goals and Megan McGrew had 11 saves in goal for the 5-6-0 Mukilteo girls program.

Audi Brezak, Grace Grubb, Alison Havron, Corrine Hoag and Ceci Votta each netted a pair as the Owls advanced to 8-2-0. Ary nets 6 as Gig Harbor drops North Kitsap lacrosse

GIG HARBOR, Wash. – Desmond Ary scored a season-high 6 goals to lead Gig Harbor to a 12 – 6 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over North Kitsap, Monday at Gig Harbor High School. With the win, Gig Harbor secured the season series with North Kitsap at 2-0 and evened its overall record at 7-7-0. Ricky Chenoweth contributed 11 ground balls and Aaron Wolfe had 10 saves in goal for Gig Harbor. Duncan Hack had 2 goals and 6 ground balls and Chaz Zacharof had 12 saves as North Kitsap dropped to 3-8-0 on the season.

MI boys 10-0 in lax win over Skyline
MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Jonathan Wettack scored 3 goals and 2 assists as Mercer Island advanced to 10 - 0 with a 12 – 8 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Skyline, Saturday at Islander Stadium. The game, was voted by Seattle Times readers as the Seattle Times People’s Choice Game of the Week. Goaltender Hap Giraud had 12 saves in the win as the Islanders maintained first place in the Northeast Conference. Connor Brandt had 4 goals and Haps Seil had 16 saves as Skyline slipped to 8-6-0 overall.

Parker Dotsey had 3 goals, 2 assists and 13 ground balls and Max Zandstra had 11 saves as the first-place King’s Way squad advanced to 9-2-0 on the season. Quinn Moody had 4 goals and Mitchell Homeyer had 13 saves in the nets for 7-5-0 Curtis.

LYNDEN, Wash. – Whatcom rolled to an 11 – 6 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over North County, Saturday at Bender Fields in Lynden. The win brought Whatcom closer to .500 at 5-6-0. North County dropped to 2-10-0 with the loss.

Connor Tidd had 2 goals and Thomas Bass had 9 saves as Wenatchee maintained its lead of the Eastern Conference. The win was the third of the season for 3-7-0 North Kitsap. Cameron Pike had 2 goals and Matthew Yan had 16 saves for Mt. Si, which has yet to win in its 12 starts this season.

Freidrich’s goal drops Hale, snaps Selah lacrosse skid
SELAH, Wash. – Corrie Freidrich scored his fourth goal of the night with 1:11 remaining in regulation to give Selah a 10 – 9 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Nathan Hale, Saturday at Selah High School. The win snapped a 3-game losing skid for Selah.

Selah trailed for most of the game before Selah rookie Nick Frank knotted the contest at 9 with 2:45 remaining in fourth. On the next possession, Hale’s Allan Ginn was called for a push with possession penalty giving Selah a man advantage for the duration. As time wound down, Selah coach Jeff Cochran called time, to set up a final play – an eventual pick-and-roll setting Freidrich up for a final shot. Back on the field, Selah executed perfectly with Hale’s defenders sliding over to Frank and , putting Freidrich cleanly at the top of the crease for a last look. He bounced a shot past Hale keeper Spencer Adams and into the upper left corner for the win.

The win gave Selah its second win of the season for a 2-9-0 record. Jack MacIntire had 3 goals and Spencer Adams stopped 19 shots in goal for Nathan Hale as the Raiders slipped to 6-8-0.

Piper Essex contributed to Wenatchee’s fifth straight win adding 3 goals. With a record of 6-5-0, Wenatchee now shares a five-way tie for sixth place. Hannah Morse had 5 goals as AM dropped their fourth straight for a 3-6-0 record on the season.
